Welcome to the Paperwork Burden Reduction Initiative website
This website is designed to inform small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and small business stakeholders about the federal government's endeavours to alleviate the burden of complying with government regulations.
The Government has taken important steps to reduce the administrative and paperwork burden on Canadian businesses. In March 2009, the Government fulfilled its Budget 2007 commitment to reduce paperwork burden by 20 per cent under the Paperwork Burden Reduction Initiative (PBRI).
The Paperwork Burden Reduction Initiative (PBRI), launched in 2004 and led by Industry Canada, is a federal initiative whose goal is to relieve small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) of the excessive paperwork burden of regulatory compliance while ensuring Canada continues to have strong, effective regulations to protect individuals, the environment and the economy.
The Advisory Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ACSBE) is a private sector committee created to provide the government with advice on how to further improve business access to federal programs and information.
Statistics Canada's Survey of Regulatory Compliance Costs on the impact of paperwork burden on small business is a key component of the Government of Canada's Paperwork Burden Reduction Initiative (PBRI).
The Resource Centre provides related reports, papers and links regarding research and initiatives taking place across the provinces and at the federal level.
Red Tape Reduction Commission (January 2011)
The Red Tape Reduction Commission's ultimate objective is to provide advice to the Government to reduce the regulatory compliance burden on businesses in cases where that compliance is inhibiting growth, productivity, and innovation, and to ensure that the environment and the health and safety of Canadians are not compromised in the process.
